How to adjust comp cycle
« on: April 18, 2015, 09:23:33 PM »
My competition got moved so its 1 week earlier then expected. Im just about to start week 1 on comp cycle. How do i shorten it to 3 weeks instead of 4?

And on test day should i try more then 105% if its easy, and should that result then be my new max for the rest of the comp cycle?

Thanks for answers :)

Just skip week 2 of the cycle.

And the percentages are generally a guideline for skills testing. If you think you can do 105% then do it but there is no benefit in failing lifts so be conservative.

Stick with the original max. If you are tapering for a meet.

Late response, but what if you're not going to a meet? Would it be okay to adjust the numbers after the #32 skills test then start the cycle over? Or would you advise jumping to week 4 to have a recovery week with lighter load before starting again.

I think you should finish the taper and do a mock-meet.
Use the maxes from the mock-meet for your next cycle.

That's how I did it.

I just read a Reddit post by bench polkov suggesting only doing weeks 1 and 4 of the comp cycle if not doing an actual meet then starting the prep period over again.

I just wanted to confirm this is a good idea and also ask whether to increase the maxes straight after doing the mock skills test in comp cycle week 1, or to wait until the start of the prep period.

what one should do is dependent on how much stress you have built up and what lies ahead of the lifter. If you are beat up, a light week with 70% would be good.

Yes, that's also what I decided on.
I did the whole cycle with a mock-meet at the end.
After that I did a lighter week at 70 to 75% and will now start a new cycle.
It's good to have a little bit of "rest" after the (mock)meet. Or it might just be my age.  ;D

I think it usually is very good with a week of 70% just after some cycling and a comp. Age, if accounted for properly should not be an excuse ;)

Never been stronger!
I've re-started training when I was 38, now a little over 2 years ago. :)
I've always been struggling with recuperation (medical reasons), but the >80kg program works wonderfully well for me. :)
