Title: Squat with pause in half squat position on way down
Post by: victorE on February 29, 2016, 08:35:13 PM
Would it be alright if I replaced this exercise with a pause squat in the hole?
How would I change the percentages if I were to change the position of the pause to the bottom?

My best squat is 162.5 Kg at 72.5kg bodyweight.

By all means, replace it with an exercise specific to your needs. Just make sure you actually need a pause squat of some sort.

The pause squat at the half way position on the way down isn't necessarily to make the sticking point stronger (it doesn't). If you have a technique problem where you drift forward on the way down, try pausing in that position and you'll naturally sit back a bit to take the stress off holding that position. Do that over and over and now you drop down into the right spot all on your own and you don't need that lift anymore.

You squat down, make a pause while going down, and then you continue going down and finish the squat as usual, so if that is ass to grass, you squat as to grass, but squatting to your standard competition depth is likely more appropriate.
